The medical alumni have been meeting since 1927, but the organization was not officially reorganized until 1961. The new organization was formed to include the graduates of the Medical College of Alabama (now the University of Alabama School of Medicine), the graduates of the old Mobile Medical College, the old Birmingham Medical College, the students of the two-year School of Medicine at the University in Tuscaloosa from 1922-1945 and the University Hospital House Staff from 1945.

 It is one of the Medical Alumni Association's greatest privileges to be able to support future physicians. The medical alumni association is proud to provide white coats for first year medical students, transcripts for first and second year medical students, support for the Medical Student Enrichment Program, emergency assistance to medical students through the Medical Student Assistance Fund, portraits for graduating seniors and numerous awards.
