Student Programs

It is one our organization's greatest priveleges to be able to support future physicians in their pursuit of knowledge.
Here are some of the programs that the MAA sponsors for the UASOM students.

The White Coat Ceremony
 

Each year the MAA provides the white coats for the incoming medical students. This ceremony marks the beginning
of their medical training and the MAA is proud to be a part of it.

The Martha Myers Role Model Display

At the 2007 White Coat Ceremony, Dr. Neil Christopher announced the two inaugural honorees of the Role Model Display: Martha Myers, MD, for whom the project is named, and Norman McSwain, Jr., MD. These and other exemplary doctors will be part of a display to be housed in Volker Hall. These physicians will serve as inspiration to future doctors:
examples of doctors using their medical training to serve others out in the world. For information on nominating an alumnus to be included in the display and bios of some of the role model honorees click here.

The Medical Alumni Association is happy to be able to provide graduating doctors with professional pictures to share

Adventures in Cultural Exploration Luncheon Series

The MAA is teaming up with the SOM's Office for Diversity Programs in sponsoring a new luncheon lecture series about diversity in medicine. MAA President Dr. Betty Ruth Speir spoke at the first luncheon, which was held in December 2007. Dr. Alan Dimick presented the second lecture in February 2008. STUDENT POETRY

MAA President Dr. Betty Ruth Speir has been encouraging students to submit their poetry to the MAA. We are very proud of the work we have received and look forward to reading more. To read some samples click here.
